Description
Located near Katra in the Himalyan region at an altitude of 5200 ft, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji resides in a Holy Cave located in the folds of the three-peaked mountain named Trikuta (pronounced as Trikoot). The Vaishno Devi Temple is considered to be one of the holiest Hindu Temples in the country. At the culmination of their pilgrimage, the believer's are blessed with the view of the Mother Goddess inside the Sanctum Sanctorum - the Holy Cave. These views are in the shape of three natural rock formations called the Pindies. There are no statues or idols inside the cave. The yatra begins at Katra and pilgrims have to cover 13 km of terrain on foot to reach the Darbar. The number of devotees visiting the Holy Shrine annually now exceeds five million.
