Description
Located near Bolpur, 136 kms from Kolkata in West Bengal. Sculptures, frescoes, murals and paintings of Rabindranath, Nandlal Bose, Ramkinkar, Bindobehari Mukhopadhyay and others adorn the campus hometown of Rabindranath Tagore. In 1901, Tagore started a school at Shantiniketan named Brahmachary Asrama, which was modelled on the lines of the ancient gurukul system. It was earlier called Bhubandanga after Bhuban Dakat, a local dacoit. Kala Bhavana, the art college of Shantiniketan, is still considered one of the best art colleges in the world.
