Description
Located near Bhopal, the caves include the scenes from the everyday life, depicting household scenes, hunting, dancing, animal fighting, elephant riders, honey collections, body tattooing, music. The 838 caves are spread on a total area of 1850 hectares. The Bhimbetka shelters exhibit the earliest traces of human life in India. The oldest rock paintings are found in the cave dating back more than 12000 years. It is the biggest repository of pre-historic art in India, depicting the life and times of early man.
