Wullar Lake is said to be one of the largest fresh water lakes in Asia. It is situated in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, between the cities of Sopore and Bandipore. Devoid of any artificial feature, the lake reflects the beauty of nature. The Wullar Lake was formed as a result of tectonic activity. It changes character after every few miles of its course. The Wullar Lake is of great socio-economic importance in the valley of Kashmir. It offers sustenance to thousands of people living in and around the lake. More than 8000 fishermen earn their livelihood from this lake.
